mrpuffypants writes "Reported in the Austin-American Statesman: The University of Texas' security was compromised over the weekend, leaking out nearly 60,000 records on students, staff, and faculty. Official word from the school can be found here. Most troubling of all is that, like most schools, UT still uses SSNs for student ID numbers, and that was part of the information taken from them in the attack."

Groove pockets Wintel dollars | CNET News.com - Groove Networks has secured an additional $38 million from existing investors, including Microsoft and Intel Capital, to fund its operations, the company said Wednesday.
In tandem with the funding announcement, collaboration software maker Groove said it will be reducing its work force by 20 percent, or 58 people, with its Beverly, Mass., headquarters taking the brunt of the hit.

As a counterpoint to yesterday's announcement of a new version of WordPerfect comes word of the new version of MS Office. The new package promises more in the way of XML data storage and collabrative features, though many features will function only in an MS world.

Reviving an initiative it sustained for over thirty years between 1938 and 1969, Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law has announced that it will offer evening classes beginning in the fall of 2004.
