Blogman Becomes Harvardman - Dave Winer is, without question, a pioneer. He spent the last two decades as a software designer in Silicon Valley, and in 1988, he founded Userland, a company that now makes one of the most popular Weblog—or blog—tools on the market. But last month the 47-year-old left his spot at Userland to prepare for life as an academic, that is, as a newly minted Harvard fellow. His mission will be to help the Ivy League school set up the first collegiate “blogosphere” in the nation. As he packed his bags to head east, NEWSWEEK’s Michael Hastings spoke to Winer over the phone at his home in Woodside, Calif. - MSNBC.com

InformationWeek > Infrastructure > Novell Hits The Red > February 27, 2003 - Infrastructure software and services company Novell Inc. reported a net loss of $12 million for its first quarter, which ended Jan. 31, compared with a gain of $8 million for the same period last year. The company reported the loss on net revenue of $260 million, down from $278 million in the year-ago quarter.

The company cited continued soft demand for networking software and IT consulting as the primary reason for the loss, despite double-digit growth in the company's identity management, Web services, and its ZENworks management software.
