MTV Movie Awards - Gollum's Acceptance Clip
from the worth-a-look dept. tinderbox writes "Tolkien fansite TheOneRing.net has a Quicktime clip of Gollum - and Andy Serkis - accepting the golden popcorn for Best Visual Performance at the MTV Movie Awards. It's hysterical." No joking, this is probably the funniest acceptance speech I have ever seen. Yoda had a speech for winning "Best Fight", but it wasn't anything close to this. Update by J: If you have BitTorrent, grab the speech here. [Slashdot] 12:22:08 PM ![]() |
EE Times - Linux-Unix ties spelled out - Claybrook and another analyst who had been given an opportunity to see examples of the alleged theft said the blocks of Unix and Linux were strikingly similar. The two blocks of software, they said, contained as many as 80 lines of identical code, along with identical developers' comments. Linux supporters, however, were quick to question the meaning of the evidence. “Can SCO prove that this code came from SCO to Linux, and not from Linux to SCO?” asked Jon “Maddog” Hall, executive director of Linux International (Nashua, N.H.), a Linux advocacy organization. “Or did the code that's in SCO Unix come from a third source? Show me the facts,” he said. Again, the Linux kernel contains over 3 million lines of code. So SCO shows 80 lines including comments that are identical? Exactly what deos that prove? Nothing really. What is the context of the 80 lines? Does SCO have evidence that the code actually originated in UNIX or was it copied in from Linux? The whole dog and pony show is just FUD. Based on the suit that SCO filed against IBM, SCO needs to show that IBM developers took blocks of licensed SCO UNIX code and inserted it into the Linux kernel in violation of the terms of IBM licenses with SCO. If so, a reasonable remedy would be for IBM to remove the code from the kernel and pay SCO damages. The lawsuit is not about Linux nor does it make Linux less viable. Even if code was copied, it can be removed and replaced. All of the rest of this, the letters, the NDA, the code review, is all FUD plain and simple.
