EBay ordered to pay $35M for patent infringement - Computerworld - A federal jury in Virginia yesterday ordered eBay Inc. and its Half.com Inc. business to pay $35 million for infringing on two patents owned by MercExchange LLC, which holds and licenses numerous patents related to e-commerce. The trial, which lasted four weeks (see story), revolved around two patents MercExchange founder Thomas Woolston applied for in the spring of 1995 -- some five months before eBay was launched by founder Pierre Omidyar.
